Artist's Note

My art is borne after several different procedures.

I make wood frames before anything, then cover them with a collage of newspapers.

The frames then become my canvas. The frames are then painted over, and

finalized by combining with ceramic pieces.

Wood, clay, metal and paper, materials I usually use, are eco-friendly media we

have played with in our childhood. I return to a youthful consciousness and play

with wood, clay and paper in a small studio in a large city.

Frames are made to look like images of nature. On them I collage newspapers from

many countries that tell us events from the real world; during which I

sometimes reveal the dark sides of life, expose politicians who are shrouded in lies

"Like a verb that conveys an action or an occurrence or a state of being, both Kyung Han Kim and Boonsun Lee examine and record the daily life occurrences around them.

Kyung Han Kim

Kyung Han Kim

Kim explores miscommunication, preconceptions and prejudices that are formed and reformed through the media and translates these experiences into hand-sewn drawings on canvases.

Boonsun Lee

Boonsun Lee

Lee, a fiber artist, investigates paradoxical ideas of birth and extinction, form and emptiness, the inside and the outside through abstract imagery. The two artists explore quite different but interconnected ideas that result in quiet meditative works that are sophisticated subtle undulations of color and texture that harmoniously echo one another.

This exhibition is presented as part of AHL Foundation’s Art in the Workplace Program which exhibits contemporary artwork within the work and business environment. BBCN Bank and AHL Foundation’s initiative to provide cultural enrichment to the local business community has received much applause from employees, customers, the local community, and art enthusiasts. The program aims to create greater exposure for talented artists while fostering easier access and support for the arts among Korean-American business leaders.

AHL Foundation’s Art in the Workplace program is presented in collaboration with BBCN Bank and supported in part by Jason J. Kim Oral Design and through public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council."

Open Unconscious Exhibit Sponsored by Jason J Kim Oral Design NY

I proud to announce that Jason J. Kim Oral Design New York Center is the official sponsor of the exhibit Open Unconscious running now through September 11th at Woodside BBCN Bank (50-15 Roosevelt Avenue, Woodside, NY 11377).

See below for details on the artists features: Dare J. Boles, Jimin Chae, Jean H. Kim, Zaun Lee

"The AHL foundation is pleased to exhibit "Open Unconscious" group exhibition with four artists, Dare J. Boles, Jimin Chae, Jena H. Kim, and Zaun Lee from May 12 through September 11th, 2015. Featured artworks are related with space, movement, social position, and memory of unconscious.

Jimin Chae's paintings centers on the concept of the installation as a process that organizes images and space in a way that affects our interpretation of art as well as our somatic relationship to it. Chae reimagines the space depicted within his paintings as something that can be fragmented into distinct parts. These parts then become something for the artist to orchestrate so as to create a synthetic whole that remains in tension with its discrete parts.

Jean H. Kim creates site specific installation and paintings. Theme of her paintings is space, especially the Stage series (2012 ) is a representation of the stage itself, except for the background and the performers . Her work with the tape drawing and printing techniques is very neat , but the slack in the expression or freedom to glimpse the unconscious world of the artist . The representation of her work on stage, which leaving the room to imagine, allow us to imagination whatever we want.

Dare J. Boles is a feminist artist who work with pattern, color, texture and the manipulation.  Interplaying of these elements are the focus of her work, and she enjoys the tension and unpredictability created by these elements. Working primarily in mixed-media and collage, she likes to explore the female role in diverse cultures being ever conscious of her place in society.

Work shown in this exhibition is Zaun Lee's abstract paintings formed by the rules and patterns. When the artist drew a picture, she followed her rules and pattern without considering the form. However, you can feel the balance of the entire screen with organizing a line from unconsciousness in the work.  The works in this exhibition are her early works to study a variety of materials and methods of representation beyond the traditional painting.
